Words from the manufacturer: “To honor our love for the old traditions and for leather with an antique flavor, we developed our version of the famous English leather called ‘Bridle Leather’. We are transported back in time to Old England during the early nineteenth century, where it was produced for the first time.
Its fame grew because of the leather’s unique property to exude a white wax that covers the outer surface. Its principal function is its protection from weathering. This ensures a long life to items made with this type of hide, whether its final form is either a travel bag or suitcase, shoes, or boots. The wax enables the leather to face the tough British winters. It was very common in the manufacture of belts, horse saddles, and liners for rifles. The fact that this leather had a natural protection from the elements was extraordinary at the time due to the fact that it pre-dated water-repellent products.
As we developed the Ghost leather, we deliberately wanted to retrace the ancient tanning tradition to create a skin that is tanned and greased with tallow oil and that is easily workable with a felt brush or abrasive, wear-resistant and applicable to current trends. The Ghost leather will remain always remain a hide representing timeless charm. This is the ideal leather for making shoes, boots, and large travel bags.
To remove the wax, use a slightly wet cloth and rub by hand. It is advisable to carry out tests on the external sides of the skin beforehand to understand the type of pressure to be applied.”
This leather represents our Tuscan leather manufacturing tradition and it certificate by “Genuine Italian Vegetable Tanned Leather Consortium.”
