Hermann Oak Craftsman Tooling - Side
Specifications
Hermann Oak Craftsman Veg Tan Tooling Leather - Side
Hermann Oak Craftsman Grade veg tan tooling leather side. Average size: 24 sq ft. Available in 2-3 oz, 3-4 oz, 4-5 oz, 5-6 oz, 6-7 oz, 8-9 oz, 9-10, 10-11 oz.
SLC’s Hermann Oak Craftsman tooling leather is medium grade. There might be a brand on it, or it might have some oxidized areas, or maybe even some off-kilter grain issues. But, while it’s not perfect, it’s pretty darned good. Hugely popular with holster & sheath makers because of its molding & oiling properties. If you're tooling on it... you will be spoiled rotten! This is one of our top selling leathers, and for good reason.
A side is one side of a full hide, cut down the spine. This is pretty big territory, averaging 24 square feet, so consider a side if you’re planning on making larger or multiple projects—maybe even to sell for money! Before buying a side, you may want to buy some of the leather by the square foot to make sure you like it. If you do and you’re making projects on a larger scale, you can save some dollars by purchasing a side. This is a superb option for experienced crafters or the entrepreneur.
Since 1881, Hermann Oak has been tanning top-grain leather right here in Missouri. St. Louis-based, the company prides itself on its slow and careful tanning process. A process that produces the finest top-grain stamping and tooling leather in the world. The Hermann Oak name has become synonymous with high quality!

Got a lot of good belts from this side. Carved easy and took finishes well.
Perfect all-around leather for projects

Great leather to work with, beautiful for tooling, took dye nicely. I made a lot of projects out of one side, including a Victorian/Steampunk style leather corset, Western style gun belt with holster, knife sheath and cartridge loops, horse tack - bronc nosebands, drink holders for saddle. The size was great and allowed me to have plenty of leather for all of my ideas.
