I have used both Fiebing's alcohol and oil-based (pro) dyes for projects. My go-to preference will always be the pro dye. That's because it nourishes the leather (with oil) as it soaks in. Unlike the alcohol-based dyes, this does not make veg-tan leather much harder than it started as raw. There will be a little more stiffness to the piece, but a bit of mink oil (http://springfieldleather.com/Conditioner-Mink-Oil-8oz) will loosen that right up. The color on the picture that SLC posted is accurate to the color of the finished leather. If you want it a shade darker, I suggest mixing the slightest amount of Fiebing's walnut dye (http://springfieldleather.com/Pro-Dye-Fiebings-Walnut-4oz).
