Kevin's SPECIAL Exotic Scrap Bag

Personally, I avoid remnant bags/scrap bags like this but thought it might be good to get a feel for the different exotics. I was pleasantly surprised! Several pieces were big enough for small projects and there was a piece of alligator that may be big enough for a minimalist wallet. But that fish skin, I have no idea what to do with it. lol

Just got some and it is an exceptionally fun and great deal. I have never really tried exotic leathers before, and this is a great way to feel and see and get an idea what the different types are, and what they can be used for. Some pieces eere large enough to make some nice accessories with, and the other pieces large enough to have a good understanding of the material. So cool!

Well worth the money- I pulled this bag out of my order and was pleasantly surprised how full it was crammed full of goodies. I'd say about 95-97% of it is useable and most of mine were decent sized. There was a nice variety of different types, colors, textures, thicknesses... 10/10

I know every bag will be different, but for me this was an excellent value. There were quite a few pieces of ostrich in my order that made beautiful inlays for my knife sheaths. There was also a piece of black shark leather that’s large enough to make a wallet back, I’ve been saving that to make a Father’s Day gift with. Some pieces are useless but there’s a lot of value here if you’re willing to be creative with it, I still have some left that I plan to make earrings and bracelets with. I’ll definitely purchase again.

I’ve got 3 or 4 of these and I’ve not been disappointed. Every time I get one I get at least 1-2 pieces for a wallet back, and many other bifold card holder backs. I always got a lot of pretty scrappy lizard, but everything else is great! Alligator, Fish, Elephant, Lizard, Giraffe, Caiman, Ostrich, and Shark are all common.

First, you don’t buy a scrap box expecting huge pieces. It’s scrap. I bought two and had a lot unusable pieces (for what I do), there was a lot of usable pieces for wallet card inserts, which is what I bought it for. It has more than paid for itself, including large piece of shark, big enough for a small bifold. If you’re creative or making earrings keychains or wallet card inserts, this is a great option. It’s amazing bang for the buck if you want to try exotics without making your wallet cry. Excellent option for the frugal.

I just got my box of exotic scrap. It’s exactly what is described, there are so many possibilities for my shop to do a lot of exotic inlay, sure there’s a fair bit of loss involved here, but the amount of usable exotics far out weighs the loss. I’m 2 years into taking a hobby and turning it into a business, and recently started doing exotic inlays, these inexpensive options are great for me. Thanks Springfield leather!

Called and talk to them and it was just the wrong item sent out. They corrected it very quickly and were very happy to correct the problem

I got a lot of good pieces. Ostrich, shark, lizard, snake, and caiman. Most pieces were big enough for wallets buy a few were too small. I even got a shark piece big enough for maybe two larger wallets.

Cons: My package had mostly small, thin strips, many too small for earrings. Scales missing so pieces can't be used. Maybe 2-3 pieces wide enough to make a narrow belt. Maybe I received a less than stellar package as I always received great remnant packs from Springfield. Pros: For the money, you get samples so you can order a full section of the exotic. Lots and lots of exotics in the bag. If you can use thinner 1/2-1" strips or really dark exotic, then this is an excellent purchase.

Not the best. Majority of the pieces are too small to do anything with and a lot of the bigger pieces are writing all over them. Can't use the bigger pieces because of this. $15 is not bad at all but just wish I was getting useful stuff.

If you want to try exotics without buying square footage assortments...this is it! Lots of strips and chunks for accent pieces or inlays. Really cool stuff to play around with. Since it comes from SLC whatever you like can then be purchased with confidence. Even if you don't actually use them, the pieces let you feel and test before you drop money on square footage. Buying mother nature's wrappers can be difficult online. SLC has the samples, bundles and pieces that let you physically sample a huge variety. If you like it, buy as much as you want. If you don't like it then donate to another crafter or maybe use it to get someone else interested in the craft. Everything they sell has a buyer but not everything is my style. This bag is like an awesome little chemistry set for a leather crafter. Lots of experimentation and learning for meager $$. Think of it like a swatch sample and you will be ecstatic!

Kind of disappointed with the couple bags I got. Quite a variety of skins received, just not very useful sized pieces, definitely couldn’t make wallet pieces with any of it. Much of the product was very dirty, some looked like it’d been driven over and smelled like moldy mildew. First purchase I made with SLC, won’t be getting this again.

Worth alot more, received some very high quality pieces. Had Shark ,Lizard and Elephant pieces to make wallets and a piece big enough to make a Roper wallet. Wish I had ordered more.

It is good if you what to add character to a wallet or a bag and not spend a lot of money on exotic leather .what is to small for trim and inlays i make ear rings.

I do realize I didn't pay much for this bag. BUT, you would think in that entire bag there would be one piece of exotic hide that will fit as the outside cover of a mans wallet.. JUST ONE?? BUT NOT THE CASE.. Once again, I know $10 is not much, but, if something is worth nothing, then $10 seems like a high price. Most of the pieces are so small you cant even make a key chain or butane lighter cover.. Comon guys, raise the price up some and give us some pieces that can be used. Honestly, most of this stuff is entirely just trash.. VERY VERY DISAPOINTED .. I get it $10 bucks is nothing.. so I got what I paid for

Only time I made a purchase from SLC that I felt ripped off.
