Phenix 1886 Oil Tans
During the railroad boom of the late 1800s the Kansas City, Clinton, and Springfield Rail Co. forged their way through the wilderness between Ash Grove and Walnut Grove. During repeated blasting a deposit of high quality of limestone was discovered. A post office, general store, two-room school house, and dwellings, started appearing around 1886. The Missouri State Capitol now displays stone from the Phenix Marble Company and the Phenix area still is in production today in the quiet woods of Missouri. These sides will consist of an exceptionally rare selection of samples leather, tanned for us in tones from Midwest Missouri brown (wood) to limestone grays (quarry)! We asked for some tanneries to make some of our stock oil tans, like Ranch Hand, Tennessee Whiskey, and several others, but the colors just weren’t a perfect match, so we’re passing these on to you for practically what we paid for it! These sides are LARGE, running between 23-28 sf. with most being 4-5 oz. and some may be closer to 5-6 oz. This is beautiful leather, folks, at a mind-blowing bargain!
